This Privacy Policy explains how SolarSense India ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use this website. We aim to keep this plain and honest. If anything is unclear, contact us at the address in the "Contact" section.

1. Who we are

SolarSense India is an informational website offering free tools and guides about rooftop solar in India, including a savings calculator, subsidy information, and state electricity tariff references. We are the "Data Fiduciary" for the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act") in respect of any personal data this site processes.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you enter into the calculator

When you use the solar calculator, you may enter details such as your state, electricity tariff, appliances, monthly bill, roof area, and sanctioned load. This information is processed entirely within your own web browser to produce your estimate. It is not transmitted to our servers and we do not store it. When you close or refresh the page, it is gone.

2.2 Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information when you visit, including:

• Your approximate location (derived from your IP address — typically city or region level)
• Device and browser type, screen size, and operating system
• Pages you view, time spent, and how you arrived at the site
• General usage patterns, collected through analytics tools

This is used to understand how the site is used and to improve it. It does not identify you personally.

2.3 Information you may provide in future features

We may later add features that let you request quotes from solar installers or save your estimate. Those features would require information such as your name, phone number, email, or address. We do not collect this today. If and when we do, we will (a) ask for your clear, specific consent before collecting it, (b) tell you exactly what it will be used for, and (c) update this policy. You will always be able to decline.

3. Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and advertising.

3.1 Google AdSense and third-party advertising

This site displays ads served by Google and its partners. To do this:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

3.2 Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to measure traffic and improve content. These may set cookies or use similar identifiers to count visits and understand which pages are useful. This data is aggregated and not used to identify you.

3.3 Managing cookies

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies may affect how ads are shown but will not stop the calculator or guides from working, since those run without needing to identify you.

We use the limited information we collect to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the website and its tools
• Understand which content and features are useful

5. How we share information

• Solar installers — only in future, only for features you actively use (such as requesting a quote), and only with your explicit consent given at the time. You will know exactly which information is shared and with whom before it happens. This is not active today.
• Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

6. Your rights under the DPDP Act

If we hold any personal data about you, the DPDP Act gives you the right to:

• Access a summary of the personal data we process about you
• Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data
• Erase your data where it is no longer needed
• Withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it
• Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if unresolved
• Nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below. Because we currently collect no directly identifying personal data, in most cases there will be nothing for us to retrieve — but we will respond to every request.

7. Children

This site is intended for adults making decisions about property and energy. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Under the DPDP Act, processing a child's personal data requires verifiable parental consent; since we do not collect identifying data, this does not arise in normal use. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Data retention

Calculator inputs are never stored, so there is nothing to retain. Automatically collected technical and analytics data is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above, then deleted or anonymised. Any future personal data (such as quote requests) would be retained only as long as necessary to fulfil your request and meet legal requirements, then deleted.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including serving the entire site over encrypted HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we design the site to minimise what is collected in the first place — the strongest protection is not holding data we don't need.

10. International data transfers

Some service providers (such as Google) may process data on servers outside India. Where this happens, it is done under those providers' contractual and legal safeguards. We only work with providers that offer appropriate protection.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves — particularly when we add features that collect personal data. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
